The Last Baby

There’s something about the last one.

You have a heightened awareness of how tiny their features are. The sound of their cry for you. The way the weight of their body feels while finally asleep in your arms.

There’s something about that last one.

Every expression, every milestone. Every tiny sound. Every onesie you put away for the last time. You let every moment hang in the air for just a little longer.

There’s something about that last one.

You’re never too busy to hold them. Never too tired to rock them to sleep. Never quite able to relax when you know they just want mommy.

You watch more. Cuddle more. Feel that soft baby skin more. Because you know, be it the hardest job on the planet, this portion is fleeting. They’ll soon grow long legs and run wild with their siblings. But for just a while longer, their whole world is you.

There’s something about that last one.🤍
